Updated: Apr 6, 2021

Main Cast: Ji Chang Wook, Nam Ji Hyun, Choi Dae Joon

Genre: Romcom, thriller, murder mystery

Fashion: Boatneck blouses, spring coloured co-ords and power suits

Swoondar: 10/10

Where I watched it: Netflix

Suspicious Partner stars Ji Chang Wook as prosecutor Noh Ji Uk *I type while swooning* (Suspicious Partner was the first drama I watched him in, and ever since there's no stopping my JCW binge fests!) and Nam Ji Hyun as Eun Bong Hui (notably, the strong-willed Hong Shim in 100 Days My Prince). The chemistry between the two is perfect, believable and they bounce off each other much differently to other leads I have seen, which makes it all the more watchable and likeable.

General Storyline:

Noh Ji Uk and Eun Bong Hui first meet on a tube train when Bong Hui mistakes Ji Uk for a pervert (not a great start, but a start nonetheless, to their future blossoming partnership and relationship!) Bong Hui is a trainee prosecutor who has a history with personal injustice, interning with Ji Uk, a prosecutor who then becomes a private attorney after they both lose their jobs. As fate works its magic, Bong Hui and Ji Uk partner up to start their own law firm from home (very 2020/21 appropriate!) and their love lives and work lives get tangled as things get complicated between the two justice seeking lawyers.

Don't be fooled... I walked into this drama thinking it was going to be a cute, fluffy romcom. Soon enough, I was being drawn into the dark twists of the storyline, which is so much more than my initial judgments - *but no denying we were still swooning over our Ji Chang Wook*! Suspicious Partner is a comedy, thriller, murder mystery and romantic comedy all rolled into one, which, for me, it my perfect type of drama!

The characters are very well developed, including the supporting-roles - I see you Eun Hyuk and the triangle you're in. The main leads and supporting cast are all amazing! The very handsome, swoonworthy and smart (oh what a combo) Ji Uk and the beautiful, funny and smart Bong Hui (we love a female lead like our BH) have great chemistry and I loved watching their scenes together. It's so refreshing to have strong and smart main leads, especially in this type of fluffy romcom!!

For me, the best (and funniest) scenes were when all the office gang were sitting in their meetings *attempting* to have serious discussions about their cases and the plans ahead. Instead, Ji Uk's appa (dad) would be throwing scolding looks at Bong Hui, then Eun Hyuk, Mr Bang and Bong Hui teasing appa and one another, ending the meetings with Ji Uk's "jinjjar", loosing his cool, shouting and, frankly, just wanting to get on with the job!! These scenes beautifully balance the dark, sinister story of the psycho killer, the gang plan to catch.

Suspicious Partner is a charmingly composed 20-part drama, with my ideal vibes of murder mystery meets romantic comedy (and gorgeous leads), it is definitely a must watch Kdrama, the balance of darkness and *major* laugh out loud moments portrayed perfectly by the cast. Everything about Suspicious Partner is spot on for me, putting the drama up there as - for sure - one of my ultimate kdramas! I will hapilly watch SP again and again... and again! So, go watch it now - go, go!!

Overall Rating: 10/10

Ps...

Memorable quote

"You are pretty. Dirty, but pretty"

- Noh Ji Uk, reluctantly patting Bong Hui's greasy hair
